I guess I've been on a bit of a cheesesteak run lately. All I hear on the radio are 'Phillies Best' and it's been peaking my curiosity. We don't have an actual 'Philly's Best' here in Simi so I've been making the rounds what we do have. Last week I tried 'House of Phillies' and today I took Elise to the 'Great Central Steak and Hoagie' place down off Sycamore. They are neck and neck but I'm going to give the edge to Great Central on this one. The sandwich was bigger and it came with marinara. Also they had killer fries so it's my new spot for these. Now, we went to Philadelphia last Fall and had the real thing so as much as they'd like you to believe these are authentic, they aren't. The real Philly bread is a tad better (not so steamed and soft), they use different cheese and don't shred up the meat like they do out here. These are just as good in my opinion, but different all the same. I guess Cheesesteaks are like Ceaser salads, there are as many different varieties as there are chefs. One of these days I'll make it to the Burbank location of 'Phillies Best' and complete the comparison.

Hi,

You should move to Santa Clarita. We have a Philly's Best and don't forget about Wana Iguana.

Hi,
You should stop by the Great Central Steak & Hoagie on UC- Santa Barbara's campus and meet the guy who brought the philly cheesesteak to the west coast. George grew up in Philly. He started all of the Great Central Steak & Hoagies. By the way, when you visited Philly, I hope you didn't try a cheesesteak with Cheese Whiz. That's the wrong way to make a cheesesteak.
