I guess I've been on a bit of a cheesesteak run lately. All I hear on the radio are 'Phillies Best' and it's been peaking my curiosity. We don't have an actual 'Philly's Best' here in Simi so I've been making the rounds what we do have. Last week I tried 'House of Phillies' and today I took Elise to the 'Great Central Steak and Hoagie' place down off Sycamore. They are neck and neck but I'm going to give the edge to Great Central on this one. The sandwich was bigger and it came with marinara. Also they had killer fries so it's my new spot for these. Now, we went to Philadelphia last Fall and had the real thing so as much as they'd like you to believe these are authentic, they aren't. The real Philly bread is a tad better (not so steamed and soft), they use different cheese and don't shred up the meat like they do out here. These are just as good in my opinion, but different all the same. I guess Cheesesteaks are like Ceaser salads, there are as many different varieties as there are chefs. One of these days I'll make it to the Burbank location of 'Phillies Best' and complete the comparison.

Good Stuff

It was about 4 years ago I drove up to San Francisco and bought my first Porsche, a 1968 911L. It wasn't perfect by a long shot but very original and the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. The drive home down the coast was worth the price of admission. I sold this one in favor of keeping my Ghia. Prices of these early 911s have doubled since I owned (and sold) it. That's how it goes sometimes...

a nice little saturday

I've had the MG for almost a year now, it just turned 32k miles (original) and I have a birthday on Monday so I decided to pop for a brand new tonneau cover. It is essential on those cold mornings. I must say, it looks pretty good considering I installed it. I got a quote of $75 per hour (shop rate) and they estimated 2.5 to 3 hours. Please. I did just fine on my own once I got the right tools.

I tried a new sub place on the East end of Simi and got some fresh strawberries/cherries for the girls. All in all, my kinda Saturday.

Our son's first gift...

I drove through New Mexico a couple weeks back and stopped for some of the 'legal' fireworks. I think it's the perfect first gift from father to son. I'll surprise him one day when he least expects it...
